The USPS issued the stamps to celebrate the holiday season.

Each stamp features an oil painting of a snow globe by Gregory Manchess, showcasing four designs: a snowman, Santa Claus, a deer, and a Christmas tree. Each stamp has a different background color.

The First Day of Issue Ceremony took place at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Snow globes possess a magical quality, holding a small world in our hands. In 2023, the USPS added that magic to our mail with four whimsical holiday postage stamps.

The earliest snow globes, produced as paperweights, date back to the 1878 and 1889 Paris Universal Expositions. Austrian inventor Erwin Perzy filed the first snow globe patent in 1900, opening the Original Wiener Schneekugelmanufacktur in Vienna.

Perzy’s globes gained worldwide fame, leading to a surge in snow globe production globally. They began featuring various themes, characters, and scenes, with Christmas-themed globes becoming particularly popular.

Although many people shake snow globes to make the snow fall, experts suggest holding them upside down. Once the snow collects at the top, turning it back over lets the snow fall as the designer intended.
